Green and proud Sand City sits along a mile-and-a-half stretch of the Monterey Peninsula coastline with a population of 334 (2010 census) living in 350 acres. The city embraces its reputation as “SoHo West” and honors its local artist community with the annual West End Celebration.
As Sand City’s legislative body, the council enacts the laws and establishes the policies that govern the city. The council appoints the city administrator, city attorney, and members of advisory committees.

The vision for Sand City’s Art Park was hatched during the height of the pandemic, when the community still wanted to socialize, but also stay outside and at a distance.
For decades, Sand City has had dreams of hotels along its beaches.
There aren’t many hurdles left to clear for Monterey-Salinas Transit’s SURF! project, a rapid transit busway between Marina and Sand City.
